If you’re familiar with “The Last Lecture” and Randy Pausch, you’ve heard his expression about Brick Walls. Walls are people, processes, bureaucracies and form of obstacle in your way. Pausch states:
The brick walls are there for a reason. The brick walls are not there to keep us out; the brick walls are there to give us a chance to show how badly we want something. The brick walls are there to stop the people who don’t want it badly enough. They are there to stop the other people!
With Boston Teawrights, I discovered that finding willing suppliers & proving our storage process worked for shipping was the first Brick Wall.
Over several months I reached out to many suppliers trying every little avenue I could uncover. Brokers, traders, importers, shippers, exporters, growers, friends, friends of friends…in the end I uncovered a handful of growers willing to try this out. These folks are true innovators in an old-fashioned, established & somewhat rigid industry.
I’m very proud of them & their bravery trying new ventures. Right now, the future looks very bright. We can only imagine what we’ve unlocked in the world, and how folks will make use of fresh tea leaves! Folks will make their own black, green & oolongs of course. Will they also try cooking with leaves? Discover whole new tea-crafting processes? Will we have unlocked a whole new Craft-Tea Industry, much like the early craft beer brewers did?
Time will tell.
Thank you to everyone who has shown support! Especially to a friendly old mentor living in Australia with 5 decades of Tea experience in his pocket, Prakash.
